27 Dresses Anyone?

27 Dresses Anyone?

Do you have a closet full of beautiful gowns from years past of school dances and bridesmaid ventures just like Katherine Heigl in 27 Dresses? What do you do with your old frocks? Do you give it to your little sister, a cousin, or your niece? What about a friend? Can you reuse it or remake it into another dress? Sometimes they just seem to sit in the closet forever until they are finally thrown away or donated to your local charitable thrift store. But what about girls that can’t afford to buy fancy couture — even a gown in a second-hand store?

Humane Society of West Michigan Wins Grand Rapids Gem

Humane Society of West Michigan (HSWM) has won the Grand Rapids Gem competition, organized by Grand Rapids-based Craft-Revival Jewelers.  As a result of earning 65 percent of the public vote on grandrapidsgem.com, HSWM earned $6,640.

“We are truly honored and ecstatic to be the winner of this exciting competition,” said Trudy Ender, executive director of the Humane Society of West Michigan.  “We currently have 300 animals at our shelter and these funds will be used directly for their care.  As a 100-percent donor-funded organization, donations like this are vital and we couldn’t care for our animals without the community support.”

Fashion: Not Just for Women

Fashion: Not Just for Women

Written by Missy Black

A fashionable men's club is forming in Grand Rapids, and if you follow the finger pointing, key players include Jim Murray, general manager of A.K. Rikk's and Stylist Kev Couture, along with a slew of other personalities.

"Fashion is everything to me. I love being able to make someone feel good about themselves through fashion. That's my high," Couture said.

And it's not just Couture who's feeling good as a result of fashion. Many men about town are picking up on an oft-overlooked trend.

"Men are starting to take notice. They think, I need a crisp haircut and cologne. It's all in the details — from the watches to the socks," says Ryan Slusarzyk, corporate business travel manager for Amway Hotel Corporation.
