Reading is Fundamental invites you to get lost in a great story

The Reading is Fundamental organization in the Grand Rapids Public Schools is holding a fundraiser. RIF will present the movie, Water for Elephants, on Wednesday, April 27th from 7:00 - 9:30 pm.   The movie will be shown at Celebration Cinema North at the East Beltline and Knapp.   Schuler Books and Music is partnering to support this presentation.   Tickets are $15 and can be purchased at any Schuler Books location or by calling (616) 819-3044, the RIF office. That includes the movie, popcorn, pop, and cotton candy.

Traffick Stop 5k Run/Walk Planned for August

A local community group has partnered with Women At Risk International (www.warinternational.org) to help raise awareness for human trafficking in the Grand Rapids area. The run/walk will be held August 27 in Riverside Park starting at the Riverbend Shelter area.

Creston High School autism awareness basketball games

Creston High School will host basketball games Friday, February 25 to raise awareness for Autism. The Autism Awareness Night games will raise awareness for Autism Support of Kent County.

The boys varsity team will play at 6 pm. The girls varsity plays at approximately 7:30 pm.

You can purchase an Autism Awareness t-shirt for $10 and a support ribbon for $1. Admission is free with the purchase of a t-shirt.

T-shirts can be purchased at the Creston High School Store and by contacting Martha Knoll-Loader at knoll-loaderm@grps.k12.mi.us.

There will also be a half time shoot off and drawings for prizes.

On game day, tickets cost $5.

                    

 

Golfing at Coit Academy

Golfing at Coit Academy

Coit Creative Arts Academy students will have the opportunity to make a "Date with Dads" and to learn something about golf at the same time. The school is holding a golf demonstration event in conjunction with the Maple Hill Golf Course and the Calvin College golf team. Attendees will learn how to play golf as well as enjoying pizza and prizes.

The event will be held Saturday, January 22 from 1:00 - 3:30 p.m. It will be held at Coit Creative Arts Academy at 617 Coit Avenue NE in Grand Rapids. Students and family members who want to attend should call Andrea Robinson to RSVP at 616-819-1797.

Greenville runs over Creston

GRAND RAPIDS (WZZM) -- The Greenville Yellow Jackets were looking to clinch a playoff spot as they faced the Creston Polar Bears at Houseman Field Friday.

The Jackets dominated the game pretty much from the start. 

One of the highlights: last week's Meijer Scholar Athlete Sean O'Brien got a 35 yard touchdown.

Greenville won 41-8.
