Brann’s is offering a free 6oz.  Sirloin and two sides on Veteran’s Day, Wednesday, November 11th.

Bob Evans-Free Breakfast all day for Veteran’s and Active Military. Choose from 5 different plates.

Golden Coral-Appreciation for Veterans and Active Military: Dinner is free November 11th from 5 – 9pm.

Applebee’s will be serving 7 different free meals to Veterans and Active Military on Wednesday, November 11th.

Red Robin Restaurants will be offering a free Tavern Double Berger with Bottomless Steak Fries at all of its restaurants on November 11th. They will also be offering a 20% discount at participating restaurants from November 12 – December 31.

Red Lobster is offering a free appetizer and dessert from Monday, November 09, 2015 to Thursday, November 12. They have put together a special menu for both items.

Anna's House is a Winner in my Book

I had the pleasure of having lunch at Anna’s House on Plainfield with my friend Barb Thompson last week for the first time. I have heard reports from others that the food is really good but now I know it to be true.

We both had burgers and it is one of the few places that ask how you would like the burger cooked. I’m guessing it is a sirloin burger because the flavor was so awesome and it was cooked to perfection. My choice was the bacon blue burger, truly a delicious burger. Even the bun was warmed, not something you always get unless you request it and I think that adds so much to a great sandwich.

My First Visit to the Blue Dog Tavern

Last Saturday I had the opportunity to visit the Blue Dog Tavern, formerly the Kopper Top Bar, for the first time. The tavern is located on the corner of Stocking & 4th St. NW in Grand Rapids, MI.

What a change from the former bar. I never knew there were windows on the side of the building but now those have been opened up to let the outside in. It is so wide open and inviting. The barback is especially neat; it looks like metal but I was told it is wood. Tables have receipts under glass from way back when, from years of 1936 on up, that the waitresses actually wrote out for customers orders. These were found when the new owner/owners started cleaning out the upper floor in the building.

Team hired for new restaurant

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. (October 21, 2014) – RedWater Restaurant Group Chief Operating Officer Craig Smith is pleased to announce three women for the top management positions at Gravity, the newest RedWater Restaurant Group restaurant to opening to the public in mid-November. Gravity is the new 64-tap craft beer, handcrafted food restaurant at 3210 Deposit Drive next to Northpointe Bank at the East Beltline and I-196 interchange. Gravity will be among the largest “all craft beer on tap” restaurants in the area.

Kristin Kent, formerly of Reds on the River, was hired as the new General Manager at Gravity, while Laurel Deruda, former Executive Chef at Honeycreek Inn and the Women’s City Club, is its new Executive Chef.  Angela Steil has been named House Certified Cicerone® and Beer Director for Gravity.

My Town: Breweries help battle cancer and Parkinson's with 'Hops for Hope'

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich.—Knock back a beer and help knock out cancer this month with “Hops for Hope.”

 

During September, several West Michigan breweries will be donating $1 from each “purple beer” purchase to Van Andel Institute’s Purple Community.  Proceeds from sales of Hops for Hope growlers and refills will also go to the cause.

 

“It’s good to give back to the community,” Bob Bonga, owner of the family-owned and operated Jaden James Brewery in Kentwood. “It’s wonderful that VAI is in Grand Rapids, and 100% of what we raise goes to research.”
