Prepare for backups! MDOT releases 2013 project schedule

 

 (Michigan Department of Transportation) -- The Michigan Department of Transportation (MDOT) will invest $100 million in the MDOT Grand Region in 2013 to improve 191 route miles of roadway and 25 bridges.

In addition, $93 million of statewide funding is planned for the construction of the new M-231 route and connections in Ottawa County. MDOT's Grand Region transportation system includes all I, US and M routes in the following eight counties: Ionia, Kent, Mecosta, Montcalm, Muskegon, Newaygo, Oceana and Ottawa.

  "There is much to be done and this year’s program strategically addresses maintaining our system and improving operations," said MDOT Region Engineer Roger Safford.

That's because the popular performance is already sold out. The show is performed by the Grand Rapids Ballet Junior Company, which highlights characteristics of butterflies through dance.

Paul Jendrasiak, Josh Depenbrok and Wynnona Francis have created a new line of Grand Rapids postcards displaying prominent and historical landmarks in Grand Rapids. The photographs in "Hello From Grand Rapids" were taken by Jendrasiak and Depenbrok, and the cards were designed by Francis.

Join this fun, friends & family hike on Saturday, January 19 from 2pm to 3pm in the wintery woods at Blandford Nature Center located at 1715 Hillburn Avenue NW in Grand Rapids, Michigan. This is the perfect opportunity to enjoy the winter wildlife trails and learn basic snowshoeing techniques. This Hike is limited to 20 participants – snowshoes are available on a first come, first serve basis. This is a Family Program for ages 7 and above.

City water playgrounds opening early

City water playgrounds opening early

Starting today the water playgrounds at Heartside Park, Joe Taylor Park, Mary Waters Park, Alger Middle School, and Gerald R. Ford Middle School will be open for the summer! Fun and safe for all ages, these water playgrounds feature spouts, sprinklers and other fun features. Running around at the water playground can be a great activity for a healthy lifestyle and is an excellent opportunity for family-friendly entertainment. In addition, the water playgrounds are free!

The water playgrounds at Heartside Park, Joe Taylor Park, Mary Waters Park, Alger Middle School, and Gerald R. Ford Middle School will be open from 8:00 AM to 8:00 PM from now through Labor Day. The water playgrounds are self-activated by pressing a bollard at the site.
