Calvary Church's Shepherding Pastor departing after 20 years

GRAND RAPIDS (WZZM) -- After more than 20 years at Calvary Church, Jim Carlson is retiring.

Carlson has served Calvary as its Shepherding Pastor.  The most recent bulletin from the church says Carlson lead the congregation "in a gracious and godly manner.

Carlson's ministry at Calvary will be recognized at an upcoming Sunday morning service.

LITERACY CENTER OF WEST MICHIGAN APPOINTS DIRECTOR FOR THE CWE PROGRAM

Literacy Center of West Michigan (LCWM) Executive Director, Susan Ledy announced that Vera Grishkina would be promoted as Director of the Customized Workplace English (CWE) program.  Grishkina had been working as Acting Director of the program since October 2010.

"Vera's hard work and dedication to the CWE program made for an easy decision in promoting her to director," commented Ledy.

Grishkina joined the Literacy Center in April 2005 as a program coordinator for the CWE program.

GRAND RAPIDS - Grand Rapids 2nd Ward City Commissioner Rosalynn Bliss hosts a show for GRTV called Bliss for GR. She recently sat down with Deborah Eid, Executive Director of the Creston Neighborhood Association, to talk about the Creston Neighborhood.

Big  Top Juice Ball 2011 is January 8 in Grand Rapids

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. (WZZM)- Juice Ball returns to West Michigan on Saturday, January 8th.  The proceeds from the fundraising event go to the Juice Ball fund at Kids' Food Basket which provides meals for needy children.

The event starts at 7 p.m. at the JW Marriott in downtown Grand Rapids. The first Juice Ball was held last year at the same location with a school lunch lady theme.  This year the International Ballroom will be transformed into a big top circus. 

Guests are encouraged to dress up in circus themed costumes.  They will find carnival games, food booths, a cash bar, face painting, as well as music and entertainment.
