GRPD investigating car-pedestrian crash

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. (WZZM) -- Police are investigating an accident involving a car and a pedestrian on the city's northeast side.

It happened around 6:35 a.m. Thursday at Leonard Street and Plymouth Avenue NE.

Police tell WZZM 13 the pedestrian, a 29-year-old man, is in critical condition. His identity is not being released at this time.

The driver involved in the accident remained at the scene after the collision, and is cooperating with officers. Alcohol does not appear to be a factor.

2 shot in GR armed robbery

Police: 2 houses shot on GR's Northeast Side

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. (WZZM) -- Two houses appeared to be shot at early Sunday morning on Grand Rapids' Northeast Side, police say.

Authorities investigated the 600 block of Lafayette Avenue where a couple of houses were hit with bullets, said a Grand Rapids police lieutenant. The incident happened around 3:50 a.m. Sunday.

There are no known suspects at this time. 

Creston Plaza re-opens in Grand Rapids

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. (WZZM) - A subsidized housing development in Grand Rapids is back open after undergoing a transformation.

A ribbon cutting ceremony took place at Creston Plaza Saturday afternoon. Creston Plaza's re-opening comes after six years of planning.

The LEED Certified housing development will house 100 families. Families that were required to move out of Creston Plaza for the project have priority status at the new development.

Red Kettle campaign kicks off Friday

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. (WZZM) -- It's a familiar sound and a holiday tradition when you begin to hear Salvation Army bell ringers around West Michigan.

The organization is kicking off its annual red kettle campaign Friday at noon at the D&W store at Knapp Street and the East Beltline.

The campaign is a big fundraiser for the Salvation Army, which uses the money to help families during the Christmas season, and the run its programs year-round.

The goal for this year's campaign is $1.6 million.

Fall Pottery Show starts this weekend

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. (WZZM) -- You can get a jump start at holiday shopping with an event that's happening this weekend. The 32nd annual Fall Pottery Show is happening at the Cultural Center at St. Nicholas Church.

It is a two day show running on Friday, from 12 p.m. - 9 p.m. and Saturday from 9 a.m. - 4 p.m.

There will be over 40 different ceramic artists at the show.

GRPD investigating teen's death

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. (WZZM) -- The Grand Rapids Police Department is investigating a teen's death.

GRPD says officers were called to the Helen DeVos Children's Hospital around 4:30 Thursday afternoon. Their investigation so far indicates a 17-year-old boy had been on a school bus around noon, after class at the Kent Career Technical Center on the East Beltline near Leonard, when he started having trouble breathing.

Paramedics were called to the bus and took the boy to the hospital, where he died.

The cause of death is unknown, and investigators are awaiting autopsy results.
