Inmate charged in guard assault
GRAND RAPIDS (WZZM) - The Kent County inmate accused of attacking a corrections officer during his try at escaping is now facing an attempted murder charge.
Willie Lee Williams is also facing other charges of assault, escape, and being a habitual offender. He's being held on $500,000 bond.
Deputies say he was trying to get out of a cell block at the Kent County Jail on September 14th when he began hitting and choking the corrections officer. Other officers and inmates are credited with saving the jailer.
Williams was already being held on armed robbery charges.
