Celebrating Beer City USA with new brew | News

GRAND RAPIDS (WZZM)-Grand Rapids is Beer City USA and its celebrating with a new brew.

Throughout the month of July, ten area breweries will be offering a specially crafted draft called Beer City Pale Ale. Each business is selling its own version of the beer, which includes red pale ale and Michigan grown hops.

"Michigan craft beer drinkers are very demanding; they want more beer, they want more varieties of beer, and they want new and creative things. And that's why we came up with the Beer City Pale Ale," says Chas Thompson, beer engineer for Schmohz Brewery.

Grand Rapids shares the title of Beer City USA with Asheville, North Carolina. Both cities tied in an online poll in May.

The breweries selling Beer City Pale Ale include: Harmony Brewing Company, The Hideout Brewing Company, Jaden James Brewing Company, Michigan Beer Cellar, Pike 51, The BOB, HopCat, Founders, White Flame Brewing Company, and Schmohz.
