Regulators: crane accident was operator error
KENT COUNTY, Mich. (WZZM)- Workplace safety regulators say the crane accident at the Kent County Jail was caused by operator error.
On February 10, part of 250 foot crane boom fell onto a new section of the jail being built. Another part fell on a Sheriff's Department Motor Poll building.
The accident injured two inmates and a construction worker. State investigators say a fill-in worker was operating the crane. A Cedar Springs company, serving as a subcontractor on the jail project, is facing up to $28,000 in fines for improper operation of the crane as well as other violations.
