GRAND RAPIDS (WZZM) - In an effort to get more young kids active outside, a new playground is going up Friday in Grand Rapids at the D.A. Blodgett-St. John's Home.
The playground will be the 14th built by Amway and KaBOOM!, and the 10th one built in Grand Rapids. KaBOOM is a national non-profit that works to get children active by creating playgrounds with the help of communities.
The children at the DA Blodgett home, who live there while receiving services, currently do not have a playground on site, nor one within walking distance.
The children helped design the layout for the playground about two months ago, so when it goes up Friday, it will be their dream place to play everyday.
A ceremony starts at the D.A. Blodgett-St. John's Home at 8:30 a.m., then groundbreaking for the playground begins at 9 am.
