GRAND RAPIDS, Mich.—A busy road that’s concerned neighbors for years is getting an upgrade.

The Creston Neighborhood Association says construction crews plan to revamp two miles of Monroe Avenue NE, from Knapp Street to North Park Street later this year.  The project includes installing new sidewalks and a bike path on the west side of Monroe Avenue, along Riverside Park.  Bike lanes will also be added over North Park Bridge, providing safer access to White Pine Trail.  New street lighting and nearly 80 trees will also be added, as well as traffic circles at Knapp Street, Guild Street, 3 Mile Road and North Park Street.

The project is slated for completion in 2014.
