GRCC considers project to renovate Belknap Park ballfields

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich.—Grand Rapids Community College is considering a $315,000 project to renovate the Belknap Park ballfields.

The city partnered with GRCC to allow the college’s baseball and softball teams to utilize the fields. Lisa Freiburger, vice president for finance and administration at GRCC,  says the college is considering upgrades, including new fencing , relocating lighting and scoreboards, and work on the dugouts.  GRCC’s Plant Fund would pay for the project.

The proposed project was mentioned during  a  GRCC  meeting May 20, but the college board of trustees must still aprove the plan.  Freiburger  says she would also  like the city to agree to a 15-year useage contract before moving  forward with the proposed project.

If all goes well,  the renovations would begin in June and the ball fields would reopen this fall.
