The Islands are Ready to Save the Planet!

Plainfield Ave looks great and we’re doing our part to filter our storm water before it enters our river and our Great Lakes. For every inch of rainfall, our islands clean 90,000 gallons of storm water.

A special thanks to CNA’s Executive Director Deborah Eid for her exemplary organizing work helping to bring the business community together around this “first of its kind” project here in Michigan!

One Man's Trash is Another Man's Compost

One Man's Trash is Another Man's Compost

By Victoria Mullen

Dean Rosendall’s passion for composting and recycling is contagious. When we meet for this article’s interview, I’m struck by his genuine interest in and commitment to his profession, which meshes nicely with his ease in building relationships, spotting trends and putting together a strategic vision.

Rosendall is a partner in the newly launched recycling business, New Soil, which is doing some pretty exciting things. Yes, recycling can be exciting, believe it or not.

Hey, I was surprised, too.

Urban Forest Project aims to map city trees and show their value

That large tree in your yard is worth some money. Next time you’re raking leaves, try to remember that.

More than 1.5 million trees exist within the Grand Rapids city limits. Each of these trees provides value to our community and thanks to the new Urban Forest Project, that value can now be measured in dollars.
