Grand Rapids Audubon Club Presents "Night Flights" Jan. 31st

 

Amateur ornithologists will be interested in Caleb Putnam's presentation "Night Flights," sponsored by The Grand Rapids Audubon Club, on Jan. 31st. Mr. Putnam is an Audubon coordinator of the Michigan Important Bird Areas (IBA) program. Held at Cornerstone University's Theological Seminary Auditorium, Mr. Putnam, a Sparta resident recording nocturnal flight calls since 2009, will speak about digitally recording migratory birds, tracking their populations and species composition. Attendees will learn how to set up microphones and identify flight calls for less than $100.

 

There is no admission charge, and social hour with refreshments begins at 6:30 p.m., with the program starting at 7:30 p.m. To learn more about GRAC click here.

Living Green in the Creston Neighborhood

The Creston Neighborhood Association has a committee focused on greening the neighborhood. So, if you live in the Creston area and are interested in how to green your life and neighborhood, you are invited to attend a meeting on January 22, 2011.

The meeting will be held at 10:30 am at the Creston Neighborhood Association's Community Room at 205 Carrier Street NE. Guests are asked to enter from the side parking lot through the courtyard gates.

Christmas tree recycling in Grand Rapids

From the city of Grand Rapids - To assist you in the post-holiday cleanup, the City of Grand Rapids Streets and Sanitation Department is again offering FREE Christmas tree recycling.

Free Christmas tree recycling will be available at the following drop-off areas: Riverside Park (north entrance), 2001 Monroe Ave., NE and JC Family Park at 2531 Kalamazoo Ave., SE, during the month of January, 2010. Make sure all ornaments, other decorations, tinsel, nails and tree stands are removed from the tree prior to recycling. Remember to remove any plastic bags from around the tree prior to drop off.
