LITERACY CENTER OF WEST MICHIGAN APPOINTS DIRECTOR FOR THE CWE PROGRAM

Literacy Center of West Michigan (LCWM) Executive Director, Susan Ledy announced that Vera Grishkina would be promoted as Director of the Customized Workplace English (CWE) program.  Grishkina had been working as Acting Director of the program since October 2010.

"Vera's hard work and dedication to the CWE program made for an easy decision in promoting her to director," commented Ledy.

Grishkina joined the Literacy Center in April 2005 as a program coordinator for the CWE program. She received a bachelor’s degree in linguistics and a teaching certification from Minsk State Linguistic University in Belarus.  She is also currently pursuing a master’s degree in literacy studies at Grand Valley State University.

About the CWE Program

The Customized Workplace English Program provides English as a Second Language and literacy training programs to West Michigan businesses and organizations with the purpose of improving internal communications.  The Literacy Center conducts a needs assessment and customizes a program that addresses their language needs, with a focus on safety, quality, and productivity.

About the Literacy Center of West Michigan

The Literacy Center of West Michigan is a non-profit organization founded in 1986 that provides literacy services to over 1,000 adults in reading and English communication. In addition to the Adult Tutoring Program, Literacy Center of West Michigan also serves area counties through the Customized Workplace English Program providing fee-based customized workplace English language, accent modification, and multicultural training to area companies; and the Family Literacy Program which offers literacy and ESL instruction, workshops, and family literacy events in partnership with the Grand Rapids Public Schools and Head Start.
