GRAND RAPIDS, MICH. – VSA arts Michigan-Grand Rapids, a non-profit organization supporting individuals with disabilities through art education, closed on a lease for a 1500 SF suite in the Old North Boundary building on North Monroe in an attempt to accommodate growing demand for its services. Effective April 1 the organization intends to operate from its new location at 1140 Monroe Avenue NW in a former factory transformed into an urban retail-office complex known as Old North Boundary.

In recent years VSA had continuously seen growth within its programs and initiatives, which recently brought them to a head with cutting programs and staff, or moving into a larger space.

“We can’t imagine cutting programs. That is not an option,” notes Michele Suchovsky, Executive Director of the local VSA chapter. “It is very important that we can provide the right environment for clients to grow in, and ultimately making a difference in their lives.”

One of the main reasons VSA chose the Old North Boundary space near downtown was the accessibility that it offers its clients.  “It is an easy on/off to U.S. Highway 131 and free parking, which is something we can’t offer at our current location,” Suchovsky said.   “However, it is still important that we are close to downtown as it is a hub for arts and culture.”

The 1,525 square feet of office space nearly doubles VSA’s current office space of five years at 300 Ottawa NW in downtown Grand Rapids. The larger space will offer private offices for full-time staff, larger programming areas, intern cubicles, a kitchen, and a copy center. A grand opening will be held in the summer, but the date is yet to be determined.
