Viridian Place development rejected by City Commission

Grand Rapids City Commissioners today rejected a controversial housing development.

The development, called Viridian Place, would have gone behind a NE side neighborhood near Maryland and I-196.

Planning commissioners approved the idea, but city commissioners were concerned about density, traffic, and changing the neighborhood's character.

Commissioners noted neighbors had a "real outpouring of concern" that the project not go forward.
